3D Wave Basin

The 3D wave basin is a 30m x 30m shallow tank of water for modelling the action of waves on coastal structures. A wave generator makes monotonic or random wave sequences which then wash against model structures, the disruption of the models is used to estimate the damage to equivalent prototype designs.

Wave Basin Building View of the wave generator system.
A general view of wave basin building. The wave generator is on the left side with some guides to direct the waves onto the test area.
Wave generator Model Breakwater
The wave generator is a computer controlled, hydraulically actuated wedge which generates either monotonic or random wave sequences. Another view of a model breakwater.

These are some models of the construction components for breakwaters, they are cast in epoxy resin loaded with sand to model the density of prototype materials.
